About Dan McGuiness & Associates

The founder and principal of the firm, Dan McGuiness began his professional conservation career banding Wood ducks on the Upper Mississippi National Wildlife and Fish Refuge as a student biologist in 1968.  His entire career has been based in communities along the Mississippi River.  Most recently Dan has served as the Director of the Audubon Upper Mississippi River Campaign and later its headwaters to gulf extension (1998-2008) and, prior that, served as the Director of the Minnesota-Wisconsin Boundary Area Commission (1987-1998). During this time he led multi-faceted programs to build a national constituency for the Mississippi River as a nationally significant ecosystem and nationally significant navigation system.  In the process, he raised more than $6 million for conservation work in the riverfront communities of the Mississippi River in five states.
